Canada is blessed with legions of
dedicated volunteers who selflessly donate their time and talents in a cause
that unites us all: making people's lives
better.
At VoicePrint
more than 800 volunteer readers help us to break the information barrier and
make media accessible to the 5 million Canadians who can't independently access printed materials, such as current newspapers
and magazines.
So, of
course, we want to salute their valuable role at our pioneering non-profit
broadcast service. But we also want our salute to the great spirit of
volunteerism to include the voices of committed Canadian volunteers from other
non-profit organizations.
To mark
National Volunteer Week 2008, which runs from April 27 to May 3, VoicePrint is
launching:
- A special series of audio
mini-profiles we're calling "60
Seconds With A VoicePrint Volunteer" on which our contributors will talk
candidly about the reasons why they volunteer and the personal enrichment
that flows from giving of yourself. You can hear them on VoicePrint's
national service and further down this page (which also includes photos of
several of them).
- A special series of audio
mini-profiles we're calling "60
Seconds With A Canadian Volunteer," which will feature volunteers from
other non-profit organizations. VoicePrint invites you to celebrate the
volunteers that inspire you and others in your organization with an audio
mini-profile to be aired three times on our national service, which goes
into 8 million Canadian homes. Find out how by viewing our Sales Sheet (PDF).
Our goal
is to attract as many volunteer voices as possible - collectively they will
become a chorus singing the praises of giving unto others to benefit the
community and the country.
VoicePrint has also created
a special programming line-up that includes (all times
Eastern):
- An interview
with the Honourable Michael Chan,
MPP, on the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards (April 27 at 4:30 p.m.) Listen to Michael Chan, MPP (mp3).
- An interview
with Craig Kielburger, a
child-rights advocate, Order of Canada-award recipient, author and more. His
most recent book, Me to We: Finding Meaning
in a Material World, is co-authored with his brother, Marc
Kielburger, and is a New York
Times bestseller. This inspirational volume empowers people of all
ages to live the "Me to We" philosophy of volunteerism, service to others and
social involvement (May 3 at 2 p.m., repeated at 8 p.m.) Listen to Craig Kielburger (mp3).
