CTV's Galit Solomon is among several contributors to VoicePrint's big triumph at the annual awards competition of the International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS). VoicePrint is a division of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc., a registered charity with a mission to Make Media Accessible.
Solomon read for This Week In Maclean's, helping us to win the gold in the Magazine category. This program is comprised of articles from the weekly edition of Maclean's, giving our audience a fresh in-depth perspective on events happening in the community, across the country and around the world.
Solomon answered VoicePrint's call out to CTV talent last year for our National Volunteer Week CTV Celebrity Readers Event in April 2007. Solomon read for the special programming and continued to contribute to our service after the special project was complete. Listen to Solomon's gold-medal read on our Online Audio Archive (mp3).
"Because you're relying on just your voice, you have to be more animated than you would on TV," says Solomon about reading text from print media for broadcast.
Since 2002, VoicePrint has won 15 IAAIS programming awards. This year is our best showing ever, with four golds and two Honourable Mentions.
VoicePrint was honoured with top prizes for the following:
- In the "Newspapers" category: Fredericton Local News
- Also in the "Newspapers" category: Oakville Local News
- In the "Information" category: Grocery Specials for GTA
- In the "Magazines" category: This Week In Maclean's
VoicePoint's two Honourable Mentions, which are awarded to programs that come just one scoring point shy of the top prize, are both in the "Thematic" category:
- 60 Seconds With A VoicePrint Listener
- White Cane Week Promos and CNIB Technical Aids Exhibit Promos
Submissions are judged on: packaging (format/continuity, smooth introduction and conclusion), presentation (program concept, voice quality, professionalism, and pace), and technical (recording quality, fidelity and levels).
The IAAIS is an association of independently operated, volunteer-driven services that use audio technology to turn print into speech, bringing the words alive. Its 100+ member services (including VoicePrint) work worldwide to deliver the joy and benefit of reading, increasing a listener's capacity to lead a full and productive life.
VoicePrint would like to thank our entire corps of more 800 volunteer readers across the country and the newspapers and magazines who allow us to read their publications so that we may fulfill our mission: to Make Media Accessible.
