Coming Up On "Contact" (March 30): Disabled Kids, Their Parents And Learning Through Play |
|
|
On Sunday, March 30:
It’s a kids’ play-and-learn program at which the parents of disabled children are also taught a thing or two.
The learning (and playing) all takes place at the Busy Bodies program at Toronto’s renowned Bloorview Kids Rehab centre. The seven-week course involves children, ages 7 to 12, who have a range of physical and intellectual disabilities. To encourage lifelong fitness, they experience sledge hockey, yoga, dance, swimming and other activities.
Tune in to Contact when Erin Wilkie, program co-developer, discusses how Busy Bodies provides a fun and rewarding time for kids but also helps parents learn the basics of encouraging their children and, ultimately, help them combat isolation and become more independent.
It’s a great example of how the family that plays together, moves forward together.
Contact can be heard every Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET. After its original broadcast, each edition of Contact is posted on our Audio Archive.
