Behind the scenes at our St. Catharines office: Sue Corcoran and Janice Alton show just why we say our Volunteers are the heart of VoicePrint

Our Volunteers continually amaze us with their dedication to the great cause of Making Media Accessible. Consider what Sue Corcoran (pictured: right) and Janice Alton (pictured: left) have accomplished for us recently:

When one of VoicePrint's full-time staff in St. Catharines needed to take a leave earlier this year, Sue and Janice stepped up to take charge of auditioning, training and coordinating their peers to ensure local and national programming requirements were met. Thanks to them (and earlier efforts from Katherine Peacock), the St. Catharines office has maintained 10 Local Broadcast Centres in the Niagara region, and provided a steady stream of up-to-date regional news and community information.

Sue has a university degree in Business Administration and Psychology/Sociology. She's worked in the non-profit field with the March of Dimes, and as a social worker with Niagara Rehab, where one of her colleagues was Rita Eastman, a VoicePrint volunteer reader. Sue's volunteer experience includes being on the executive of the Niagara chapter of the Council of Canadians, and working on the board of Information Niagara.

Janice is a former teacher of classical ballet. More recently she has been an Activation Director for a nursing home and an On-call Coordinator for a health care agency. For many years, she volunteered with victims of Alzheimer's and related dementias. In addition to VoicePrint, she volunteers as a member of the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Accessibility, as well with Project Share and the Niagara Children's Centre.

The great example set by Sue and Janice is a fine demonstration of the volunteer spirit -- and VoicePrint Ambassadorship -- the kind of commitment to helping others that VoicePrint will celebrate this September when we honour and host regional volunteer ambassadors from our offices across the country.
