*Pride Interviews - June Sunday, 14 at 4:00 p.m.
Tune in to Contact, VoicePrint’s signature interview program (at a special time – 4:00 p.m.), when VoicePrint presents coverage of the upcoming Pride Week festivities, one of the largest cultural events in North America.
In this one-hour special, Contact interviews Genevieve D’Iorio, disability resources coordinator and board member of Pride Toronto, on her continuing efforts to make the parade, and other festivities during the week-long event, accessible.
Lawyer El-Farouk Khaki is the Grand Marshal of the Pride Parade which takes place Sunday, June 28th. As well as being a lawyer and human rights activist on issues including gender equality, sexual orientation, and progressive Islam, Mr. Khaki can speak on the importance of inclusion in societies not amenable to change. He speaks to Contact on his own work on gender equality. He relates his own personal story of being gay and a Muslim as well as how he is seen and treated in both communities.
The AIDS Committee of Toronto, (ACT), is one of the honoured groups at this year’s Pride Week. Established in 1983, ACT dispenses information, and social support services to men, women and youth living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto. John Maxwell, director of policy and communications for ACT, speaks to Contact on the major issues in the gay community regarding health care and the quality of life for people with HIV/AIDS.
* Note: This special Pride program will be re-broadcast Thursday, June 18th at 6:00 p.m. and June 25th at 12:00 p.m.
MOVIE: Gods and Monsters – Friday, June 19 at 9:00 p.m.
In 1950s Hollywood, aging film director James Whale (Ian McKellen), the man who made the movie classic Frankenstein, now leads a quiet life in the company of his housekeeper (Lynn Redgrave). But things change when the flamboyantly gay director befriends a young gardener (Brendan Fraser) who knows nothing of his past.
Listener discretion is advised.
With special thank to Maple Pictures.
