VoicePrint joins the celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women
In recognition of International Women’s Day, VoicePrint is proud to present a discussion with Judy Rebick, writer, feminist and political activist. Rebick talks about the permanence of feminist culture and what it means to be a feminist in the 21st Century.
"I think we've come a long way since I was young," says Rebick. "But, I think there are a couple of areas where there's a long way to go. One is in the home and the lack of child care...women are expected to do double duty. I think with the new generation, more and more men are taking their parenting responsibilities more seriously, but I've noticed anecdotally, and also we see it statistically, that women are still taking the primary responsibility for caring for children and the primary responsibility for work in the home. And that's on top of working outside of the home. And so there is a lot of work to do there...the second is the issue of violence against women..."
Tune in on Sunday, March 8th at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time when VoicePrint presents the International Women’s Day edition of Contact.
VoicePrint asks:
-
What role does feminism play in the 21st century?
-
What are the major challenges that North American Women face?
- How can the demands for equality be reconciled with what seemed to be a conflict between religions and local customs in some countries?
“We’re very excited about this recognition of Women’s Day,” says Paul Daniel, Executive Producer of VoicePrint’s award-winning interview program Contact. “Judy Rebick, writer, feminist and political activist, as well as former President of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women in the early 1990s, is eminently qualified to discuss the topic.
“Not only do we discuss issues such as child care, pay equity and violence against women - urgent matters that need to be addressed in order to achieve equality - but also the issue of whether the discussion of ‘women’s rights’ has expanded to encompass ‘human rights’ in general.”
