In 1987,
Rick Hansen's Man in Motion Tour brought issues of ability and access into the
national spotlight. In response, National Access Awareness Week was born; and
VoicePrint is celebrating with an exciting line-up of programming and events.

Royal Ontario Museum is hosting an exhibit titled: Out
From Under: Disability, History & Things to Remember; and talked to
Melanie
Panitch, Director of
Ryerson University's School of Disability Studies; and the co-curator of this
unique exhibit..
What
message is the exhibit trying to send? What does this country's disability
history say about Canada itself? Do Canadians have an
understanding and appreciation of disability culture in this country?

Kim Kilpatrick is Co-ordinator of Supported Volunteer Program for People
with Physical and Sensory Disabilities with Volunteer Ottawa.
Ms. Kilpatrick, who is blind, answers our questions:

- What has
been the response from businesses and charities that have utilized this
service?

of the Friendly to Seniors program in Calgary

Ryan
Gerstenbuhler is the man behind an exciting exhibit at the Bowman Arts Centre
in Lethbridge, Alberta called "Points of Importance".
This exhibition brings together the work of 12 figurative artists who have been
working extensively with disabled activist Gerstenbuhler. Ryan has
spastic cerebral palsy and relies on a wheelchair for mobility.
Tune in to hear
how artistic expression speaks volumes; bringing together the work of 14
figurative artists who have been working with Gerstenbuhler...their nude
subject.

When Vancouver was awarded the
2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 2010 Legacies Now program was
established. The intent of the program was to focus on sport development,
community capacity building and a province-wide community outreach program.
Since its inception in 2000, the mandate was expanded to include sports,
recreation, the arts, volunteerism, literacy, community programs and
more.
Discussing this program in more detail is Director of Inclusion
Initiatives, Carla Qualtrough,
herself a former Paralympian representing Canada in the 1998 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Games.
