VoicePrint asks "Is Canada Accessible?" in tribute to National Access Awareness Week (June 1 to 7, 2008)

In 1987, Rick Hansen's Man in Motion Tour brought issues of ability and access into the national spotlight. In response, National Access Awareness Week was born; and VoicePrint is celebrating with an exciting line-up of programming and events.

Tune in to VoicePrint this week (Every day at 2 p.m., repeated at 7 p.m.) for hard-hitting interviews on Improving Accessibility for Canadians with Disabilities. (For our line-up of local events happening near you, please see below).

When Vancouver was awarded the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 2010 Legacies Now program was established. The intent of the program was to focus on sport development, community capacity building and a province-wide community outreach program. Since its inception in 2000, the mandate was expanded to include sports, recreation, the arts, volunteerism, literacy, community programs and more.

Discussing this program in more detail is Director of Inclusion Initiatives, Carla Qualtrough, herself a former Paralympian representing Canada in the 1998 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Games.
